ماnot رِيءَwas seen مِثْليَmy like فيin الماضِيthe past ولاnor الآتِيthe future
فَريدَةًa peerless one جَمَعتْshe brought together ماwhat بَيْنَbetween أشْتاتِdisparate things
None like me has been seen in the past, nor will be in the future—
A peerless one who has brought disparate things together.
أناI العَروسُthe bride منَof الرّيْحانِsweet basil ليfor me حُلَلٌrobes
والبَهْوُand the hall تاجيَmy crown والصِّهْريجُand the pool مِرْآتيmy mirror
I am the bride; my robes are of sweet basil.
And the hall is my crown, and the pool my mirror.
قَدْindeed قُمْتُI have stood منْfrom خَلْفِbehind دارِthe house of السّعْدِgood fortune خادِمةًas a maidservant
فَكُنْهُso the essence of حاليَmy condition أنّيthat I ياO أُخَيّاتِيmy little sisters
I have taken my stand behind the House of Good Fortune as a maidservant.
So the truth of my condition, O my little sisters, is that I am
خَديمَةٌa little maidservant منْfrom among بَناتِthe daughters of الرّومِthe Romans واقِفَةٌstanding

a little maidservant, one of the daughters of the Romans, standing;
I have raised my mistress’s daughter above my head.
