ياO ذَاyou with الذُّؤابَةِthe forelock إلاexcept أنّهُthat he is سَعْدُa lucky star
يا ذَا الذُّؤابَةِ إلا أنّهُ سَعْدُ
هلْdoes? يَقْرُبُdraw near الوَصْلُunion أوor هلْwill? يُنْجَزُbe fulfilled الوعْدُthe promise
هلْ يَقْرُبُ الوَصْلُ أو هلْ يُنْجَزُ الوعْدُ
O you with the forelock—yet a lucky star!
Does union draw near, or will the promise be fulfilled?
بيwithin me منْكَbecause of you ماthat which لوْif غَداcame to be بالشّمْسِin the sun ماnot طَلَعَتْit rose
بي منْكَ ما لوْ غَدا بالشّمْسِ ما طَلَعَتْ
أوor بالغَمامَةِin the cloud لمْnot يُسْمَعْbe heard لَهاfrom it رعْدُthunder
أو بالغَمامَةِ لمْ يُسْمَعْ لَها رعْدُ
What I feel because of you, if it befell the sun, would keep it from rising,
Or, if it befell the cloud, no thunder would be heard from it.
