Meknes—bands of enemies have been gathered there;
For within a postal stage’s span are a thousand fiends:
مِنْamong واصِلٍone who has attained للجوعِthrough hunger لاnot لرِياضَةٍthrough ascetic discipline
أوor لابِسٍone clad للصّوفِin wool غيْرِnot مُريدِa spiritual seeker
One who has attained through hunger, not ascetic discipline,
Or one clad in wool, yet no spiritual seeker.

So if you tread its path as a Sufi,
Then base your spiritual wayfaring there on detachment.
