ياO بُقْعَةًa place بالجَمْدِfor ice مَعْروفَةًknown
يا بُقْعَةً بالجَمْدِ مَعْروفَةً
تحْذَرُهاis wary of it الشّمْسُthe sun فَلاand so does not تُشْرِقُshine
تحْذَرُها الشّمْسُ فَلا تُشْرِقُ
O place renowned for ice,
O spot on the frost well known
The sun shuns it and so does not shine.
The sun fears it, so does not rise
تَرَىyou see عُيونَthe eyes (springs) of الماءِwater عُمْشاًbleary-eyed بِهاin it
تَرَى عُيونَ الماءِ عُمْشاً بِها
وأعْيُنُand the eyes of النّيرانِthe fires لاdo not تَنْطِقُspeak
وأعْيُنُ النّيرانِ لا تَنْطِقُ
There you see the water-springs bleary-eyed,
You see the eyes of water go blind in it
And the eyes of the fires do not speak.
And the eyes of fires do not speak
