أقولُI say والبَدْرُwhile the full moon يسْموrises high فيin السماthe sky صُعُداًupward
أقولُ والبَدْرُ يسْمو في السما صُعُداً
لصاحِبيto my companion والدُجىwhile the darkness مُستَقبِلُat the outset of العُمُرِlife
لصاحِبي والدُجى مُستَقبِلُ العُمُرِ
I say, as the full moon climbs upward in the sky,
I shine and the full moon rises in the sky
to my companion, while the night is still young:
To my friend and the darkness is welcoming the span of life
انْظُرْهُlook at it فيin كفّةِthe pan of الميزانِthe scales صاعِدةًrising
انْظُرْهُ في كفّةِ الميزانِ صاعِدةً
كأنّهاas though it were صَنْجةٌa balance weight بيْضاءُwhite منْof حَجَرِstone
كأنّها صَنْجةٌ بيْضاءُ منْ حَجَرِ
“Look at it in the rising pan of the scales,
Look at it in the scale's pan ascending
as though it were a white weight made of stone.”
As if it were a white bell made of stone
