لخَوْضي غِمارَ الهَمِّ في طَلَبِ المَجْدِ
I brought on gray hair’s first streaks in the season of youth,
I took on flecks of gray before their time, in the days of youth,
by plunging into the depths of care in pursuit of glory.
Because I plunged into the depths of care in pursuit of glory.

So whatever gray you see upon the crown of my head,
So whenever you see a gray hair upon the parting of my hair,
do not find it strange—it is the gray hair of praise.
Do not disapprove of it: it is a gray hair worthy of praise.
