يا حُسْنَهُ مَنْصِباً راقَتْ مَعانِيهِ

يا حُسْنَهُ مَنْصِباً راقَتْ مَعانِيهِ

محمّدُ بنُ أبي الحجّاجِ بانِيهِ

محمّدُ بنُ أبي الحجّاجِ بانِيهِ

How splendid a seat of rule, whose meanings delight!

How beautiful a seat it is; how pleasing its meanings!

Muhammad, son of Abu al-Hajjaj, is its builder—

Muhammad, son of Abu al-Hajjaj, is its builder.

مُجَدِّدُ المُلْكِ سيْفُ الحقِّ ناصِرُهُ

مُجَدِّدُ المُلْكِ سيْفُ الحقِّ ناصِرُهُ

وحافِظُ الدّينِ قاصِيهِ ودانِيهِ

وحافِظُ الدّينِ قاصِيهِ ودانِيهِ

renewer of the realm, sword of Truth and its champion,

Renewer of kingship, sword of truth, its champion,

guardian of the faith in its farthest and nearest reaches.

And guardian of the faith, in its far and near reaches.

سَميّهُ خطَّ هذا القصْرَ مُبْتَدِئاً

سَميّهُ خطَّ هذا القصْرَ مُبْتَدِئاً

وكانَ أوّلَ ثاوٍ في مَغانِيهِ

وكانَ أوّلَ ثاوٍ في مَغانِيهِ

His namesake laid out this palace, initiating its construction,

His namesake first laid out this palace,

and was its first dweller, abiding in its halls.

And was the first to dwell in its abodes.

فإنْ يكُنْ أوّلاً في اسْمِ وفي اسْمِ أبٍ

فإنْ يكُنْ أوّلاً في اسْمِ وفي اسْمِ أبٍ

وطولِ عُمْرٍ وسَعْدٍ فهْوَ ثانِيهِ

وطولِ عُمْرٍ وسَعْدٍ فهْوَ ثانِيهِ

If he came first in personal name and in his father’s name,

If the former came first in name and in his father's name,

and in length of life and good fortune, then this king is his second.

And in length of life and good fortune, this one is his second.
