The book al-Shifa is marvel enough for you;
and dawn cannot be denied when plainly visible.
للّهِto God be praise ماhow أجْزَلْتَyou gave abundantly فِيناamong us بهِthrough it

God be praised—how richly you have endowed us through it
with a gift beside which all other gifts fall short!

A garden of learning, over which has poured
the streaming cloud, with a downpour of thought.

So from the exposition of truth come dewy blossoms,
and from the tongue of truthfulness, a sweetly singing bird.

The fragrance has spread, and the fruit is sweet;
and how could it not bear fruit, or fail to breathe perfume?

And a monument to the faith that you raised;
so these banners gleam from it.

So tell Haman: 'Thus—or not at all—
are lofty towers built, O you who have lost right guidance!'
فيin أحْسَنِthe finest التّقْويمِproportion أنشأتَهُyou fashioned it
خَلْقاًa creation جَديداًnew بَيْنَbetween جِسْمٍa body وروحْand a soul
In the finest proportions you fashioned it,
a new creation between body and soul.
فعُمْرُهُso its lifespan المَكْتوبُallotted لاnot يَنْقَضيends

So its allotted lifespan will never end,
even should the lifetimes of Shem and Noah end.

It is like the east wind in the gathering,
and every shoulder is a breeze-stirred bough.

إنْif هاجَstirs منهُof him الذِّكْرُremembrance أنْthat لاnot يَبوحْhe speaks openly
What excuse has one enamored of the best of humankind,
when remembrance of him surges, for not speaking out?
عَجِبْتُI marveled منْat أكْبادِthe livers of أهْلِthe people of الهَوىlove

وقدْand already سَطاhas struck fiercely البُعْدُseparation وطالَand has lengthened النّزوحْexile
I marvel at the livers of those in love,
when separation has struck hard and exile has dragged on:

ماnot هُنَّthey أكْبادٌlivers ولكِنْbut rather جُروحْwounds
whenever the beloved is mentioned, they stream with blood.
They are not livers, but wounds.
