غرَسْتُI planted لكُمْfor you شجَراتِtrees الهَوىlove
بأرْضٍin a land أثارَstirred ثَراهاits soil الجَوىlove's anguish
I planted for you the trees of love,
In a land whose soil love's anguish had stirred,
وسقّيْتُهاand I watered them بدُموعِwith tears الجُفونِthe eyelids
فقدْfor indeed أيْنَعَripened الغَرْسُthe planted trees لمّاwhen ارْتَوىdrank their fill
And watered them with tears from my eyelids.
For the planted trees ripened when they drank their fill.
ولمّاand when ترعْرَعَflourished منْهاfrom them البُسوقُthe lofty growth
وأجْمَعَand filled out ريْعانُهاtheir youthful bloom واسْتَوىand matured
And when their lofty growth had flourished,
And their youthful bloom had filled out and matured,
نوَيْتُI intended الجَنىthe harvest قبْلَbefore يوْمِday النّوىparting
وكُلُّand every امْرِئٍperson فلَهُthen he has ماwhat نَوىhe intended
I intended the harvest before the day of parting;
And every person has what they intended.
