وكأنّand as though جُنْحَthe darkness اللّيْلِof the night أسْودُblack سارِقٌa thief
وكأنّ جُنْحَ اللّيْلِ أسْودُ سارِقٌ
سَرَقَstole الصّباحَthe morning الطَّلْقَradiant ثَوْباًa robe أبْيَضاwhite
سَرَقَ الصّباحَ الطَّلْقَ ثَوْباً أبْيَضا
And it is as though night’s darkness were a black thief,
As though night's dark winged thief
who stole a white robe from the radiant morning.
Stole dawn's bright robe of white,
مازالَkept يَضْرِبُstriking بالبَوارِقِwith flashes of lightning ظَهْرَهُhis back
مازالَ يَضْرِبُ بالبَوارِقِ ظَهْرَهُ
حتّىuntil أقَرَّhe confessed بهِto it فَهاso behold هُوَhe / it قدْalready أَضاshone
حتّى أقَرَّ بهِ فَها هُوَ قدْ أَضا
Morning kept striking his back with flashes of lightning,
Still striking lightning at his back
until he confessed to it—and behold, morning now shines.
Until, behold, the day ignites
