وَخَفَّand he hastened لِتَوْدِيعِيto bid me farewell وَتَشْييعِand seeing off رِحْلَتِيmy journey
وَخَفَّ لِتَوْدِيعِي وَتَشْييعِ رِحْلَتِي
أَخُوa man of كُلِّall إِيثَارٍselflessness وَكُلِّand all وَفَاءِloyalty
أَخُو كُلِّ إِيثَارٍ وَكُلِّ وَفَاءِ
And he hastened to bid me farewell and see me off on my journey—
He hurried to bid me farewell and see me off on my journey
a man of utmost selflessness and loyalty.
A brother of every generosity and every loyalty
فكَمْso how many مِنْof أَكُفِّhands أُغْرِيَتْwere drawn بِتَصَافُحٍto handshaking
فكَمْ مِنْ أَكُفِّ أُغْرِيَتْ بِتَصَافُحٍ
وَكَمْand how many مِنْof جُفُونٍeyelids أُولِعِتْwere given over بِبُكَاءِto weeping
وَكَمْ مِنْ جُفُونٍ أُولِعِتْ بِبُكَاءِ
So how many hands were drawn to clasp one another,
So many hands I shook in parting
and how many eyelids were given over to weeping!
And so many eyes overflowed with tears
