وكَريمةٍand a noble lady شهِدَbore witness الخِضابُthe dye شَهادَةًa testimony
وكَريمةٍ شهِدَ الخِضابُ شَهادَةً
بفُتُوِّهاto her youth عنْدَat الأداءِthe giving of testimony مُزوّرَهْforged
بفُتُوِّها عنْدَ الأداءِ مُزوّرَهْ
And a noble lady—the dye bore testimony
And a generous woman whose henna bore witness
to her youth, forged when given.
Of her deceitfulness when paying off
مرِضَfell ill الفُؤادُthe heart لَهاfor her وحُمَّand became feverish لأجْلِهاbecause of her
مرِضَ الفُؤادُ لَها وحُمَّ لأجْلِها
فجعَلْتso I made منْهاof her للعِلاجِfor treatment مُزَوَّرَهْa meatless medicinal dish (“counterfeit”)
فجعَلْت منْها للعِلاجِ مُزَوَّرَهْ
My heart fell ill for her and grew feverish because of her,
The heart grew sick for her, and was in anguish because of her
so, for treatment, I made of her a “counterfeit” medicinal dish.
So I made up from her as a remedy, a fabrication
