ووجْهٍand a face غرَسْتُI planted الوَرْدَthe roses فيهِin it بنَظْرَةٍwith a glance
فياso, oh لَيْتَif only كفّيmy palm مُتِّعَتْwas granted enjoyment بجَنَىwith the harvest غرْسيmy planting
And a face in which I planted roses with a glance—
Oh, if only my palm could enjoy the harvest of my planting!
كأنّas though احْمِرارَthe redness الخدِّthe cheek تحْتَbeneath عِذارِهِhis sideburn
عَلامَةُthe signature موْلاناour lord علَىupon أحْمَرِred الطِّرْسِthe parchment
The redness of the cheek beneath his sideburn is like
our lord's signature upon red parchment.
وبَيْنهُماand between them both فيin باطِنِthe hidden aspect of الأمْرِthe matter نسْبَةٌa kinship
لذلِكَfor that reason أمْضَيْتُI imposed الغَرامَpassion; also, a penalty علَىupon نفْسيmyself

for that reason I imposed love's penalty upon myself.
