    رأيْتُ ذلِكَ منْ أوْلَى المُهِمّاتِ

    I have willingly visited your grave at Aghmat;

    I deemed this among the foremost duties.

    Why should I not visit you, O most open-handed of kings,

    and O lamp of the pitch-dark nights?

    And you are one whom, had Time postponed his death

    until my lifetime, my verses would have praised well.

    Your grave rises on high ground that sets it apart,

    so affectionate salutations seek it out.

    فأنْتَ سلْطانُ أحياءٍ وأمْواتِ

    You were noble in life and death, and renowned for eminence;

    thus you are sovereign of the living and the dead.

    No one like you was seen in the past, and my belief is

    that none will ever be seen, now or in time to come.
