ياO قَلْبِmy heart كمْhow long هذاthis الجَوىburning anguish والخُفوتْand fading
ذَماءَكَyour remaining life اسْتَبْقِpreserve لِئَلاّlest يَفوتْit slip away
O heart, how intense this consuming passion, this throbbing!
O my heart, how long will this burning anguish and fading last?
Guard the last spark of your life, lest it slip away.
Preserve the life still left in you, lest it slip away.
فقالَso it said لاno حَوْلَstrength ولاand no قَوْلَwords ليfor me
قدindeed كانَhas happened ماwhat كانَhas happened فحسْبِيso enough for me السّكوتْsilence
It said, “I have neither power nor strength.”
So it said, “I have neither strength nor words.
What has been has been; silence is enough for me.
What has happened has happened; silence is enough for me.
فارَقَنيleft me الرُّشْدُsound judgment وفارَقْتُهُand I left it
لمّاwhen تعشَّقْتُI fell in love بشَيْءٍwith something يَموتْdies
Sound judgment parted from me, and I parted from it,
Sound judgment left me, and I left it,
when I fell passionately in love with something that dies.
when I fell in love with something that dies.”
