أميرٌa prince كأنّas though قُمَيْرَthe little moon الدُجَىnight-darkness
أفاضَpoured forth الضِّياءَthe radiance علَىupon صَفْحَتَيْهِhis two cheeks
A prince, as though the little moon of the night
had poured its radiance upon his two cheeks.
تملأَّbecame full قلْبيَmy heart منْwith حُبِّهِlove for him
غَداةَthe morning نظَرْتُI looked بعَيْنيwith my eye إلَيْهِat him
My heart filled with love for him
the morning I looked upon him with my own eyes.
فَلاso may not بسَطَstretch out الدّهْرُTime كفَّthe hand الرّدَىof death
لذاكَtoward that الشُّخَيْصِlittle figure وذاكَand that الوُجَيْهِlittle face
So may Time never stretch out the hand of death
toward that little figure and that little face.
