أهْلاًwelcome بطَيْفِكَto your phantom زائِراًvisiting أوor عائِداًreturning
تَفْديكَransoms you نَفْسيmy soul غائِباًabsent أوor شاهِداpresent
Welcome, your apparition—whether visiting or returning.
Welcome to your phantom, whether visiting or returning.
My soul would ransom you, whether absent or present.
May my soul ransom you, whether absent or present.
ياO مَنْyou who علىto طيْفِthe phantom الخَيالِimagination أحالَنيreferred me
أتظُنّdo you think جَفْنيmy eyelid مثْلَlike جفْنِكَyour eyelid راقِداasleep
O you who have consigned me to imagination’s phantom,
O you who have referred me to the phantom of imagination,
Do you think my eyelid sleeps, as yours does?
Do you think my eyelid sleeps like yours?
ماnot نِمْتُI slept لكنّbut الخَيالَthe apparition يُلمُّcomes بيto me
فيُجِلُّهُso reveres it طرْفيmy gaze فيطْرُقُthen bows down ساجِداin prostration
I have not slept, yet the apparition visits me;
I have not slept, but the apparition comes to me;
My gaze reveres it, then bows low in prostration.
So my gaze reveres it, then bows down in prostration.
