Raise the ships’ bows with his good fortune,

And seek mighty victory in fulfillment of his promise.

And look at him: in his face there shines before you

The mark of courage from his father and grandfather.

By God, what a keen sword for your victory,

Over whose patterned steel the water of beauty flows!

My glad tidings and hopeful augury went forth to you

Concerning the event, before he emerged from his sheath.

The fleet rejoices in him as a commander,

Like the full moon beneath his sail or banner.

And on the day of his birth, the sea takes pride in him—

Its admiral, son of its admiral, son of its admiral.
