منْ بَعْدِ ما نَظَمَتْ جَواهِرَ تاجي
The fingers of my maker embroidered my brocade,
My maker's fingertips embroidered my brocade
after stringing the jewels of my crown.
after they had strung the jewels of my crown.

أنّي ضَمِنْتُ سَعادَةَ الأزْواجِ
I rivaled the bride’s throne—and surpassed it—
I resembled the bride's seat, and surpassed it
for I guaranteed the happiness of married couples.
in that I guaranteed the happiness of married couples.

صِرْفُ الزُّلالِ العَذْبِ دونَ مِزاجِ
Whoever comes to me complaining of thirst—my spring
For whoever comes to me complaining of thirst, my spring
is pure, sweet, limpid water, wholly unmixed.
is pure, sweet, clear water, without admixture.
فكأنّنيso I am like قوْسُa bow السّماءِthe sky إذاwhen بَدَتْit appears

والشّمْسُ موْلانا أبو الحَجّاجِ
Thus I am like heaven’s bow whenever it appears,
So I am like the bow of heaven when it appears,
while the sun is our lord Abu al-Hajjaj.
and the sun is our lord Abu al-Hajjaj.

May his dwelling place remain protected as long as
May his abode remain guarded as long as
the House of God remains the pilgrims’ place of return.
the House of God remains a place of return for pilgrims.
