حَتَّىuntil دَعَوْنَاwe called الْعَامَthe year عَاماًa year مُجْدِبَاdrought-stricken
The gravelly plains and hills thirsted to be watered,
The pastures and the deserts thirst for the watering places,
until we called the year a year of drought.
Until we called the year a barren year,
وَالْغَيْثُand the rain مَسْدُولُdrawn down الْحِجَابِthe veil وَإِنَّمَاand it was only that
عَلِمَknew الْغَمَامُthe clouds قُدُومَكُمْyour arrival فَتَأَدَّبَاand so observed decorum
And the rain's veil was drawn down; it was only that
And rain being implored drew down the veils, but only
the clouds knew of your arrival and so observed decorum.
The clouds learned of your coming and then adorned themselves.
