مِنْكانَةُ الرّملِ فيها عِبْرَةٌ ونُهى

مِنْكانَةُ الرّملِ فيها عِبْرَةٌ ونُهى

وشاهِدٌ أنّ كُلآً مُنْقَضٍ كَمدى

وشاهِدٌ أنّ كُلآً مُنْقَضٍ كَمدى

The hourglass holds a lesson and wisdom,

And bears witness that everything ends, like a span of time.

لُبابُ عُمْرِ الفَتى يجْري بجِزْيَتِها

لُبابُ عُمْرِ الفَتى يجْري بجِزْيَتِها

كأنّما العُمْرُ لمّا أُطْلِقَتْ قُصِدا

كأنّما العُمْرُ لمّا أُطْلِقَتْ قُصِدا

The essence of a young man's life flows with its tribute,

As though life were the target when the clock was set running.
