قدindeed كانَused to يُسْكِرُintoxicate شُرْبُهُdrinking it
فسَكِرْتُso I grew drunk منْfrom نظَريmy looking إلَيْهِat it
Drinking it would indeed intoxicate;
The drinking of it would make me drunk
so I grew drunk from looking at it.
So I got drunk from looking at it
وهديّةُand the gift الموْلَىthe lord تَحُطْlowers
طُcompletes the split verb ‘lowers’ لفَضْلِهاbecause of its excellence رأسيmy head لَدَيْهِbefore him
And the lord’s gift lowers
The gift of God humbles
my head before him, because of its excellence.
My head before His bounty
والشّكْرُand gratitude يقْصُرُfalls short فيin عُلَىeminence
مَنْthe one who كُلُّevery فضْلٍbounty فيin يَدَيْهِhis two hands
And gratitude falls short of the eminence
Gratitude falls short in the highness
of him in whose hands lies every bounty.
Of Him in Whose hand is all virtue
