للّهِto God دَرُّكَyour excellence ياO ابْنَson of بَطّانٍBattān فَماfor there is no
للّهِ دَرُّكَ يا ابْنَ بَطّانٍ فَما
لشَهيرِof the renowned جودِكَyour generosity فيin البَسيطَةِthe earth جاحِدُone who denies
لشَهيرِ جودِكَ في البَسيطَةِ جاحِدُ
God bless you, O Ibn Battān, for no one
Glory be to you, O son of Batan, though
On earth denies your renowned generosity.
The renowned liberality in Al-Basaita has a denier,
إنْif كانَthere is فيin الدُّنْياthe world كريمٌa generous man واحِدٌone
إنْ كانَ في الدُّنْيا كريمٌ واحِدٌ
يزِنُweighs as much as الجَميعَeveryone فأنْتَthen you are ذاكَthat الواحِدُone
يزِنُ الجَميعَ فأنْتَ ذاكَ الواحِدُ
If in this world there is a single generous man
If there is one generous person in the world
Who weighs as much as all the rest, then you are that one.
Who outweighs all, that one is you.
أجْرَيْتَyou made flow فضْلَكَyour bounty جعْفَراًa river يَحْياَlives بِهِthrough it
أجْرَيْتَ فضْلَكَ جعْفَراً يَحْياَ بِهِ
ماwhatever كانَwas منof مَجْدٍglory فذكْرُكَso your remembrance خالِدُeverlasting
ما كانَ من مَجْدٍ فذكْرُكَ خالِدُ
You made your bounty flow as a river, giving life to
You bestowed your bounty on Ja`far and he lives by it
Whatever glory there was; so your memory is eternal.
Whatever glory there was, your mention is eternal.
فالقوْمُthus the people منْكَof you تجمّعواhave gathered فيin واحِدٍone man
فالقوْمُ منْكَ تجمّعوا في واحِدٍ
ولَدٌa son كَماas شاءَwilled العُلاءُeminence ووالِدُand a father
ولَدٌ كَما شاءَ العُلاءُ ووالِدُ
Thus your people have gathered in a single man—
The people all came together in the one
A son, as eminence willed, and a father.
Son, as the Exalted and Parent willed.
وهيَand they are اللّياليthe nights لاتزالُnever cease صُروفُهاtheir vicissitudes
وهيَ اللّيالي لاتزالُ صُروفُها
يَشْقىsuffers بموقِعِهاfrom their impact الكَريمُthe generous man الماجِدُthe illustrious
يَشْقى بموقِعِها الكَريمُ الماجِدُ
And such are the nights: their vicissitudes never cease;
And these nights, their circumstances still
The generous, illustrious man suffers when they strike.
Afflict the noble, splendid man.
وبمُسْتَعينِand through the seeker of help from اللهِGod يصْلُحُis set right منْكَin you ماwhat
وبمُسْتَعينِ اللهِ يصْلُحُ منْكَ ما
قدْalready كانhad غيّرَهُchanged it الزّمانُtime الفاسِدُcorrupt
قدْ كان غيّرَهُ الزّمانُ الفاسِدُ
And through Mustaʿīn Allāh is set right in you what
But with the help of God, that of you which
Corrupt time had changed.
Time, corrupt, had changed, will be set right.
