تَعَدَّدَتِbecame numerous الأَلْفَاظُthe words وَاتَّحَدَand became one الْمَعْنَىthe meaning
تَعَدَّدَتِ الأَلْفَاظُ وَاتَّحَدَ الْمَعْنَى
وأَصْبَحَand became فَرْداًone مَاwhat مَرَرْتُI passed بِهِby it مَثْنَىin pairs
وأَصْبَحَ فَرْداً مَا مَرَرْتُ بِهِ مَثْنَى
The words multiplied, and the meaning became one.
The words have multiplied yet the meaning is one
And what I had encountered in pairs became one.
What I passed by paired has become singular and alone
وَعَادَتْand they returned لِعَيْنِto the essence of الْجَمْعِunity وَهْيَwhile they were كَثِيَرةٌmany
وَعَادَتْ لِعَيْنِ الْجَمْعِ وَهْيَ كَثِيَرةٌ
مَحَاerased كُلَّevery فَرْقٍdistinction مُجْتَلَىthe sight of وَجْهِكَyour face الأَسْنَىmost radiant
مَحَا كُلَّ فَرْقٍ مُجْتَلَى وَجْهِكَ الأَسْنَى
And they returned to the essence of unity, though they were many.
To the eye of the collective, abundant though they are
The sight of your most radiant face erased every distinction.
Erasing all distinction, your most radiant face
تَعَبَّدَتِenslaved الأَفْكَارَthe thoughts آَثارُكyour traces الْعُلَىsublime
تَعَبَّدَتِ الأَفْكَارَ آَثارُك الْعُلَى
وَقَيَّدَتِand fettered الأَبْصَارَthe eyes رَوْضَتُكَyour garden الْغَنَّاlush
وَقَيَّدَتِ الأَبْصَارَ رَوْضَتُكَ الْغَنَّا
Your sublime traces held thoughts in thrall.
Thoughts worship your highest traces
And your lush garden held eyes captive.
Eyes are confined by your verdant oasis
وَقَصَّرَتِand fell short الأَلْفَاظُthe words عَنْof نَيْلِattaining غَايَةٍa goal
وَقَصَّرَتِ الأَلْفَاظُ عَنْ نَيْلِ غَايَةٍ
بِبَعْضِwith part of الَذِيthat which أَبْدَتْهُrevealed it ذَاتُكَyour essence مِنْof مَعْنَىmeaning
بِبَعْضِ الَذِي أَبْدَتْهُ ذَاتُكَ مِنْ مَعْنَى
And words fell short of attaining a goal
Words fall short of attaining any end
With even part of the meaning your essence revealed.
Of the meaning your essence has revealed
