بِنَفْسِيwith my soul as ransom غَزَالٌa gazelle فِيin ثَنَايَاهُhis front teeth بَارِقٌa flash of lightning
وَلَكِنَّهَاand yet they لِلْوَارِدِيِنَfor those who come to drink عِذَابُsweet
My soul be ransom for a gazelle, lightning flashing among his front teeth;
And yet they are sweet to those who come to drink.
إِذَاif كَانَthere is لِيfor me مِنْهُfrom him عَنِfrom الْوَصْلِunion حَاجِرٌa barrier
فَدَمْعِيthen my tears عَقِيقٌcarnelian فِيin الْجُفُونِthe eyelids مُذَابُmelted
If a barrier from him keeps me from union,
Then my tears are carnelian, melted in my eyelids.
