I swear by the blooming roses of cheeks,

and the sweet dark tint of lips in a delectable, cool mouth,

    ووصْلٍ ألَمّ برَبْع الصَّدودْ

    and a beloved's unexpected visit,

    and reunion that visited the abode of estrangement;

or else by the streaming downpour of rain,

and the fluttering banners and the crash of thunder:

you are indeed the dawn amid the darkness of calamities,

and your hand is the key to the gate of good fortune.

Your beauty is the essence of existence's beauty,

and your gate is the abode of resolve and generosity.

And Ridwan is the greatest sign

that your abode is the abode of eternity.

    You restored the caliphate's lights,

    shining after being long extinguished.

And through justice you brought hearts together,

and parted sword-blades from their sheaths.

So through you the faith swayed its flanks,

as a rain-watered garden bough swayed.

If the praise of the kings of mankind

is verse, then your praise is its crowning line.

Are you not of the people who made generosity their own,

and plunged through the gate of iron into battle's terror,

and unsheathed against it swords streaming

with blood from the jugular vein over both their faces?
