مُبارَكُO Mubarak ماnot قدّمْتُI gave precedence to سُفْيانَSufyan رَغْبَةًout of desire
ولاnor خوْفَfear of تَقْصيرٍfalling short ولاnor سوءَbadness of سِيرَهْconduct
Mubarak, I did not give Sufyan precedence out of desire,
nor for fear of falling short, nor through ill conduct.
وماand no نظْرَةٌglance منّيfrom me إليْكَtoward you أعُدُّهاI count it
سوَىother than نعْمَةٍa blessing للّهِfrom God فيَّupon me كَبيرَهْgreat
And no glance I cast toward you do I count
as anything but a great blessing from God upon me.
وإنْand if كانَwere مَنْthose whom لاقَيْتُI met دونَكَbesides you أنْجُماstars
فأنْتَthen you علىin التّحْقيقِtruth شمْسٌa sun مُنيرَهْradiant
And if those I met besides you were stars,
then you are, in truth, a radiant sun.
ورُبَّand many a صَلاةٍprayer قُدِّمَwas offered النّفْلُthe voluntary prayer قبْلَهاbefore it

And many a prayer is preceded by a voluntary one,
and harira soup is drunk before tharid.
