    Let the lofty offices be congratulated on having you,

    for you are their good fortune, in word and in meaning.

    وَإِنْ ذُكِرَ السَّنَاءُ فَأَنْتَ أَسْنَى

    When loftiness is mentioned, you are loftier;

    and if radiance is mentioned, you are more radiant.

    Your virtues have become gardens of Eden

    for whoever seeks kindness and beauty.

    So whenever an eye’s pupil alights in them,

    a person finds there whatever he desires.

    I have shaken, Abu Sa‘id, your spreading grove,

    with all the shade and fruit I wish for.

    So live up to what my reliance on you demands,

    and raise for me an edifice of generous care.

    وَمِثْلِي مَنْ وَفَى بِيَدٍ وَأَثْنَى

    You are the finest of young men, beyond dispute;

    and one like me repays a kindness and offers praise.
