خَلِيلىَّmy two friends زُوراvisit (you two) بِيwith me أُمَيمَةَUmaymah فاجلُوَاand clear (you two)
خَلِيلىَّ زُورا بِي أُمَيمَةَ فاجلُوَا
بِهاthrough her بَصَرِىmy sight أوor غَمرةًoverwhelming anguish مِنfrom فُؤَادِياmy heart
بِها بَصَرِى أو غَمرةً مِن فُؤَادِيا
My two friends, take me to visit Umaymah, and brighten
My friends, visit Umaymah and bid her farewell
my sight through her, or dispel anguish from my heart.
Let my eyes feast on her or tears of my heart flow
فَقَدfor indeed طالَhas lasted long هِجرَانِيmy forsaking أُمَيمَةَUmaymah أَبتَغِيI seek
فَقَد طالَ هِجرَانِي أُمَيمَةَ أَبتَغِي
رِضَىapproval النَّاسِthe people لاnot أَلقَىI find مِنَamong النّاسِthe people راضِيَاsomeone pleased
رِضَى النَّاسِ لا أَلقَى مِنَ النّاسِ راضِيَا
For I have long kept away from Umaymah, seeking
For too long has she shunned me, I seek to please
people's approval, yet I find no one among the people pleased.
Not people's contentment but my own wishes
