لَقَدindeed كَثُرَbecame numerous الأخبَارُthe reports أَنthat قَدalready تَزَوَّجَتshe has married
لَقَد كَثُرَ الأخبَارُ أَن قَد تَزَوَّجَت
فَهَلso will...? يَأتِيَنِّىcome to me بِالطَّلاقِwith divorce بَشِيرُa bearer of good tidings
فَهَل يَأتِيَنِّى بِالطَّلاقِ بَشِيرُ
Indeed, reports have multiplied that she has married.
So will a bearer of good tidings come to me with news of divorce?
دَعَوتُI called upon إِلهيmy God دَعوَةًa prayer ماnot جَهِلتُهَاI was ignorant of it
دَعَوتُ إِلهي دَعوَةً ما جَهِلتُهَا
وربّيand my Lord بماof what يُخفِىconceals الضَّميرُthe heart بَصيرُfully aware
وربّي بما يُخفِى الضَّميرُ بَصيرُ
I called upon my God with a prayer I knew full well.
And my Lord sees what the heart conceals.
لَئِنif indeed كانَwere يُهدَىbestowed بَردُthe coolness أَنياَبِهَاof her canine teeth العُلاthe upper ones
لَئِن كانَ يُهدَى بَردُ أَنياَبِهَا العُلا
لأَفقرَto someone poorer منّىthan me إِنَّنىindeed I لَفَقِيرُam certainly poor
لأَفقرَ منّى إِنَّنى لَفَقِيرُ
If the coolness of her upper canine teeth were bestowed
on someone poorer than I—indeed, I am poor.
