أَماdoes ... not? يَستَفِيقُregain its senses القَلبُthe heart إِلاّexcept that انبَرىarose لَهُbefore it

تَوَهُّمُan imagining of صَيفٍa summer abode مِنof سُعادِSu'ad وَمَربَعِand a spring abode
Does the heart ever recover without being assailed
by a vision of Su'ad's summer camp and spring abode?
أُخادِعُI try to beguile عَنaway from أَطلالِهاher ruins العَينُthe eye إِنَّهُfor indeed it is
مَتَىwhenever تَعرِفِrecognizes الأَطلالَthe ruins عَينُكyour eye تَدمَعِweeps
I try to distract my eye from her ruins, for
whenever your eye recognizes the ruins, it weeps.
عَهِدتُI once knew بِهاin it وَحشاًwild creatures عَلَيهاupon them بَرَاقِعٌveils
وَهذِىand these وُحُوشٌwild creatures أصبَحَتare now لَمnot تَبَرقَعِwearing veils
I once knew wild creatures there with veils upon them;
but these are wild creatures that now go unveiled.
