ألاAh! حَبَّذاhow lovely الماءُthe water الذِىthat قابَلَlay opposite النَّقاthe sand dune

وياand oh! حَبّذاhow lovely مِنfor أَجلِthe sake of ظَمياءَẒamyāʾ حاضِرُهthose dwelling beside it
ويا حَبّذا مِن أَجلِ ظَمياءَ حاضِرُه
Ah, how lovely is the water that lies opposite the sand dune!
And oh, how lovely, for Ẓamyāʾ's sake, are those dwelling beside it!
إِذاwhen ابتَسَمَتshe smiled ظَمياءُẒamyāʾ وَاللَّيلُwhile the night مُسدِفٌdark
إِذا ابتَسَمَت ظَمياءُ وَاللَّيلُ مُسدِفٌ
تَجَلَّىcleared ظَلامُthe darkness of اللَّيلِthe night حِينَwhen تُباشِرُهshe faces it
تَجَلَّى ظَلامُ اللَّيلِ حِينَ تُباشِرُه
When Ẓamyāʾ smiles while the night is dark,
The darkness of night clears when she faces it.
وَلَوand if سَأَلَتshe asked للنَّاسِfor the people يَوماًone day بِوَجهِهاby her face
وَلَو سَأَلَت للنَّاسِ يَوماً بِوَجهِها

سَحابَ الثُّرَيّا لاستَهَلَّت مَواطِرُه
And if one day, by her face, she petitioned on the people's behalf
The clouds of the Pleiades, their rain-bearing clouds would surely pour.
