And no tawny pool of water, free of specks,
A white droplet, pure and free of motes,
At a white rock, its ripples running beneath a mountain peak,
Flowing beneath a delicate palm, bubbles foaming,

Watered by a rain-cloud of al-Ashrāṭ, until
Watered from the springs, until it came to flow
Its flood channels and ravines began to flow,
Down waterways, streams bursting their banks,

With a thirsty one circling it, seeing death barring his way,
A lover wanders, sees before him only torment,
Encircling it—he longs to drink from it, yet fears it—
Surrounded, plunging into her current, fearing her waters,

Is sweeter than her mouth; nor is any potent wine
With the sweetest basil scent mingled within, no bitterness,
Whose nectar is mixed with ginger-water.
Her potion tempered with ginger's soft bitter bite.
