غُزالٌa gazelle أَحَمُّjet-black المُقَلَتضينِthe two eyes (likely intended) رَبيبُtame; reared in care
And among the neighbors departing in the morning from Wajrah's valley
In the ruins near the hillock
Is a tame gazelle with jet-black eyes.
A gazelle with beautiful eyes wanders
فَلاَso do not تَحسَبِىyou think أَنَّthat الغَرِيبَthe stranger الذِىwho نَأىwent far away
وَلكِنَّbut rather مَنwhoever تَنأَينَyou keep away عَنهُfrom him غَرِيبُa stranger
So do not think the stranger is the one who has gone far away;
So think not that I am the stranger who has strayed
Rather, whoever you keep your distance from is a stranger.
But he from whom I have strayed is the stranger
