إِذا ما سُهَيلٌ أَبرَزتهُ غَمَامَةٌ

إِذا ما سُهَيلٌ أَبرَزتهُ غَمَامَةٌ

عَلَى مَنكِبٍ مِن جانِبِ الطُّورِ يَلمَحُ

عَلَى مَنكِبٍ مِن جانِبِ الطُّورِ يَلمَحُ

Whenever a cloud revealed Suhayl,

Whenever a cloud brings Suhayl into view,

glimmering above a shoulder on the mountain’s flank,

glimmering on a shoulder at the side of Mount al-Tur,

دَعا بَعضُنا بَعضاً فَبِتنا كأَنَّنا

دَعا بَعضُنا بَعضاً فَبِتنا كأَنَّنا

رَأَينا حَبِيباً كانَ يَنأَى وَينزَحُ

رَأَينا حَبِيباً كانَ يَنأَى وَينزَحُ

one of us called to another, and we passed the night as though

we call to one another and spend the night as though we

we had seen a beloved who had kept distant and far away.

had seen a beloved who used to draw away and go far off.

وَذلكَ أَنّا واثِقُونَ بِقُربِكُم

وَذلكَ أَنّا واثِقُونَ بِقُربِكُم

وأَنَّ النَّوَى عَمّا قَليلٍ تَزَحزَحُ

وأَنَّ النَّوَى عَمّا قَليلٍ تَزَحزَحُ

That was because we were certain of your nearness,

And that is because we are confident of your nearness,

and that separation would soon retreat.

and that separation will soon recede.
