O you who seize me by my robe's hems,

in my early mornings and late afternoons alike,

pressing me harshly to abandon my haste

toward a beloved whose love is my wealth:

my love for him has mingled with my blood,

and plunged into my sea and my limbs.

And the utmost of my hopes has become

union with him—how fortunate my hopes!

I laid them at the Generous One's door, and did not

fear any severance after leaving them there.

Away from me, you who hate me!

You have always remained in my mind

as one I loathe; I long to part from you in

every halt and journey of mine.

I hate my reproachers, and you are their

    chief—so woe to my reproachers!

Sorrow's fire, from [beneath] their ribs,

scorches their innards here and now.

    ومن يتب منهم له مالي

    And in recompense, Hell's fire is theirs;

and whoever among them repents shall have my wealth.

O my reproacher, leave off the ornate talk

with which you have wearied your worn-out mind.

Are you anywhere near me, now that I have been honored

by my Lord, O you untouched by love?

And have your eyes beheld a secret with which

He has singled me out from among my peers?

Or what have your eyes seen of His essence,

from His unseen realm, in the lofty vision?

Die of rage if you wish, for there is no

way to cut me off: He has revealed Himself to me.

And He has guarded the borders of my kingdom

by His might—exalted is the Subduer, the Ruler.

From Him I have an eye that guards me from you

in the unseen—how excellent the Guardian, the Keeper!

I do not feel safe from His stratagem, yet I

wish to put you to shame, you who go too far.

And gentleness would be better, if I could look to you, O

my adversary, for my success one day.

    وحسن ظني فيه أولى لي

    I fear my God and place my hope in Him;

and thinking well of Him is better for me.

God suffices me—exalted is He, far above

the words of anyone who lies and leads astray.

He does not resemble creation in His essence,

nor in His attributes and actions.

He existed when no creatures were; then He brought them into being

and bestowed His bounties upon them all.

And He will cause them to perish and gather them

afterward, and recompense them for their deeds.

Then He will lodge the transgressors in the abode of affliction—

    the Fire—in disgrace and exemplary punishment;

and the God-fearing in a Garden; they shall have

within it bliss that never fades.

They will see Him there with their own eyes—

oh, what a triumph for you, and what favor from Him!

O Lord, by Your grace admit us into

what pleases You, with [the Companions] and the Family.

And send blessings, O Lord, upon Ahmad,

Your Prophet, the guide, with great honor.
