    هدَاكُم فواتِحُهُ بِلا مَحْكِ

    The conquest of the earth is told of you;

its beginnings have guided you, beyond dispute.

The heavenly spheres revolved with it, casting it

    to the swimmers—horses and ships.

If it is pearls in its preciousness,

then your station is like the thread for stringing them.

    Its pages, already sealed, refuse

to be unsealed except in your presence.

Indeed, certainty inclines toward freedom from

misgiving that weakens it, and from doubt.

These keen swords of yours consign

your enemies to death and ruthless slaughter.

    قَد كانَ عَيشُهُمُ أَخا الهُلْكِ

    Their death added nothing to their torment;

their life had already been a brother to death.

Their mourning gatherings brought about our banquets,

like flowers laughing at the rain as it weeps.

May the path to their downfall ever remain broad

on the day of battle, in the cramped pass.

And may you endure, your sword-edges sparing none of

their lifeblood, pouring it out and shedding it.

You are the caliph, beyond dispute; and is

the light of day part of pitch-black darkness?

And God made you inherit what they usurped,

when He saw you more entitled to kingship.
