Tears, by my life, flow in streams and torrents,
My tears and laments are eternal,
if indeed a likeness of the Messenger's sandal is precious.
Though the sandal of the Prophet is peerless.
وَهَلْand can يَمْلِكُrestrain العَيْنَيْنِthe two eyes فِيin مِثلِهاthe like of it سِوَىexcept

And who can restrain his eyes before its like except
What else but misguidance can the eyes see
one untouched by longing, whom error has turned from his right path?
In anyone who parts from His guidance?

A likeness tracing its origin to the purified one's sandal:
It is peerless, that blessed sandal,
so honoring it brings attainment of the two blessings.
And kissing it is the highest honor.
أُقَبِّلُهُI kiss it شَوْقاًout of longing تَمَلَّكَنِيhas possessed me لِماfor what

I kiss it out of a longing that has possessed me for what
Yearning has overcome me, so I kiss it,
it depicts; my witness, could it speak, is the toe-strap.
Though my witness is its kiss alone.
وَالَىforged fellowship اشتِرَاكٌsharing فِيin التِزامِclasping شِراكِهِits sandal-strap
وَحَسْبِيand enough for me مِنْهُfrom it عِصْمَةٌprotection وَمَنالُand bounty
Sharing in clasping its strap has forged fellowship,
I share in wearing his noble sandal,
and its protection and bounty are enough for me.
My safeguard and gift being this honor.
وَمَعقِدُهُand its knot مِماamong what عَقَدْتُI have bound بِهِwith it الهَوَىlove

And its knot is among the things with which I have bound my love;
I bound my love to it and my resolve;
so may my resolve fail if ever my mind grows sober.
If that binding fails, no resolve avails me.

My wish in rubbing my gray hair upon it is that
I rubbed my gray hair upon it so
torrents of mercy pour down upon me;
My laments might be wiped by mercy's dew.

and my wish in laying it upon the finest part of my face and raising it
Pressing it against my eyes and face,
to the crown of my head is that my final destiny be exalted,
Raising it unto my head gives glory.
فأَحْظَىso I may be fortunate بِحَظِيwith my share منof جِوارِdwelling beside مُحَمَّدٍMuhammad
وَهَلand is there بَعْدafter تَنْوِيلِthe granting of الجِوارِthe nearness نَوَالُa gift
so I may gain my share of dwelling beside Muhammad.
My share of bliss is in the Prophet’s nearness.
And is there any gift beyond being granted such nearness?
After that, is any bliss or gift left?
