لِلَّهِfor God (expressing admiration) قَلْعَةُthe fortress بِيرانٍBiran وَعِزَّتهَاand its might
عَلَىagainst الأَعَاصِيرِthe tempests فِيamid ماضِيthe past of الأَعَاصِيرِthe tempests
How splendid are Biran's fortress and its might
God's fortress is Biran and its might
against the tempests amid the tempests of old!
Against the storms throughout the storms of the past

It bowed and submitted to the dictates of desire, in fear
It bent and submitted to the rule of fate separately
of a lord; it had fallen from the loftiest wall.
From a lord it had fallen from the highest of walls

And it yielded, lofty though its summit was,
And it surrendered while being the towering peak
despite its previously noted resistance.
To Hajjaj who had been mentioned before

And had it persisted in turning away a second time,
And if it had insisted on turning away again
it would have been caught between devastation and destruction.
It would have been amidst destruction and ruin

To you, Abu Zayd, it extended in obedience
It extended to you Abu Zaid in its obedience
a hand, fearing your renowned assault.
A hand fearing your famed severity

كَمَاjust as تَقَدَّمَcame earlier تَأييدُsupport الْمَقَادِيرِthe decrees of fate
And it affirmed its desire for approval and pardon,
And it emphasized in pleasure and forgiveness its desire
just as fate had already lent its support.
As the support of fate had preceded
فَجُدْتَso you gave generously جُودَكَyour generosity بِالنُعْمَىwith favor بِمَاwith what سَأَلَتْit requested

So, in your generosity, you granted the favor it requested
So you were generous with grace as it had asked
of safety for itself, your countenance beaming.
For safety, freeing the prisoners
