And a river, like melted ingots of silver,
its bends mimicking the coils of speckled serpents.
إذَاwhen الشَّفَقُtwilight اسْتَوْلىtakes hold عَلَيْهِof it احْمِرَارهits redness

When twilight's redness spreads over it,
it appears dyed red, like a bloodied blade.
وتَحْسِبُهُand you think it سُنَّتْhas been poured عَلَيْهِover it مُفَاضَةٌa full-length coat of mail

And you would think a full-length coat of mail had been poured over it,
to frighten off the gusts of gently blowing winds.
وتَطْلَعُهُand come upon it فيin دُكْنَةٍduskiness بعدَafter زُرْقَةٍblueness

And over it, bringing darkness after blue, come
shadows of great, luxuriant trees above it,
كَماjust as انْفَجَرَbursts forth الفَجْرُdawn المُطِلُّlooking out عَلىover الدُّجىthe darkness

as dawn bursts forth, looking out over darkness,
with black clouds before it on the horizon.
