عِشْناwe lived لِمَوتfor the death of إمامِناour imam
عِشْنا لِمَوت إمامِنا
أيْنwhere الوفاءُloyalty لقَدindeed ذَهَبْit has gone
أيْن الوفاءُ لقَد ذَهَبْ
We lived to see our imam's death.
Where is loyalty? It has surely gone.
ماwhat بالُناis the matter with us لمdid not نَفْدِهِwe ransom him
ما بالُنا لم نَفْدِهِ
ونُفُوسُناand our souls مِمّاamong what وَهَبْhe bestowed
ونُفُوسُنا مِمّا وَهَبْ
Why did we not ransom him,
when our souls are among what he bestowed?
