يا آخذاً في غير مسلك رشدهِ

لم تدّكر أنّ الردى أخّاذُ

لم تدّكر أنّ الردى أخّاذُ

O you who take a course other than the path of sound guidance,

You have not remembered that death is a relentless taker.

هاذي الشعوب أحلّها بطن الثرى

هاذي الشعوب أحلّها بطن الثرى

فتلاحقت ببطونها الأفخاذُ

فتلاحقت ببطونها الأفخاذُ

It has lodged these peoples in earth’s belly,

So the subclans have caught up with their clans.

سيّان إمهالٌ وإعجالٌ مضى

سيّان إمهالٌ وإعجالٌ مضى

أنسٌ على تعميره ومعاذُ

أنسٌ على تعميره ومعاذُ

Delay and haste are alike; gone are

Anas, despite his long life, and Mu‘adh.

باللّه عُذ وإليه عد مستبصراً

باللّه عُذ وإليه عد مستبصراً

فاللّهُ ممّا تتّقيه معاذُ

فاللّهُ ممّا تتّقيه معاذُ

Seek refuge in God, and return to Him with clear insight,

For God is a refuge from what you fear.
