May rain bless the time I visited it in early forenoon,

while its doves, in rapture, cooed to the nightingale.

Manifold are its beauties: among them flowers above

a river flowing like bubbles in an unbroken chain.

And as though spring breathed fragrance to invite its plucking,

and drew from it a blade to defend it.

The noonday sun sank within it, never ceasing

to scorch its surface with a blazing flame,

until the great trees clothed it out of their shade

in a mantle torn to tatters in the late afternoon.

And the patches of shadow upon its back seemed

like clots of blood, congealed as it threaded through.
