رقَّtook pity مَولاناour lord لِعَبْدٍon a servant زَمِنِchronically infirm
دَنِفِailing الجِسْمِin body لِشَكْوٍfrom an affliction مُدْمِنِpersistent
Our lord took pity on a chronically infirm servant,
The Master pitied his weak and oft-complaining servant
ailing in body from a persistent affliction.
Though not long ago he was but a little child
لمnot يَكُنْhe was يَبْعُدُfar removed عَهْداًin years بالصِّبىfrom youth
وهْوَand he فيin ضَعْفِthe frailty of الكَبيرِan old man اليَفَنِdecrepit
He was not yet far removed from youth,
Fate has led him where it willed, as it does to all
yet he had the frailty of a decrepit old man.
Yet still he shows gratitude and does not complain
قَدْalready وَنَىgrew feeble خَطْواًin walking كَماas شاءَwilled الضَّنَىwasting illness
ولهُand he has نَهْضَةُa rising شُكْرٍof gratitude لاnot تَنِيfalters
His steps had weakened, as wasting illness willed,
His complaints of hardship were soothed
yet he rises in gratitude without faltering.
And he was consoled with kind sweetness
فَشَفَىso he cured شَكْواهُhis complaint مِنfrom عُسْرَتِهِhis hardship
وضَناهُand his wasting illness بالسَّماحِwith generosity الهَتِنِpouring like rain
So he cured his complaint of hardship,
And it was deemed well that he remain in service
and his wasting illness, with generosity pouring like rain.
For one so deserving of great blessings
وَرَأَىand he saw fit إِبقاءهُkeeping him فيin خِدْمَةٍservice
وهْوَand he أهْلٌworthy لِجَسيمِof great المِنَنِfavors
And he saw fit to keep him in service,
Never did the favor of the beloved Prince wane
and he is worthy of great favors.
His call forever invigorates me
لَمnot يَزَلْhas ceased عَطْفُthe kindness of الأَميرِthe prince المُرْتَضَىthe chosen
ونَداهُand his bounty أبداًalways يُنْعِشُنِيrevives me
The chosen prince’s kindness has never ceased,
I have no fear of disgrace in his state
and his bounty ever revives me.
No dishonor for one who is his servant
لاnot أَخَافُI fear الهونَhumiliation فيunder دَوْلَتِهِhis rule
مَنْwhoever يكُنis عَبْداًa servant لَهُto him لاnot يَهُنِis abased
I fear no humiliation under his rule;
I died from ecstasy over my fortunes after him
whoever is his servant will not be abased.
So gracious and generous has he been to me
متُّI died وَجْداًof grief لِثَوَائِيbecause of my remaining بَعْدَهafter him
وَكَريمُand one noble in القَصْدِintention بيtoward me أنْشَأَنِيbrought me to life
I died of grief at outliving him,
He favored me with the service of his noble son
and one nobly disposed toward me brought me back to life.
Who has shown me such affection and favor

He singled me out, through service to the worthy son,
The moon of fortune who brings me happiness
with tenderness and favors that encompassed me.
The life of generosity who gives me life

وَحَياand the rain of الجُودِgenerosity الذيthat يُوجِدُنِيenriches me
The moon of good fortune that gladdens me,
May he live long, protecting religion and world
and the rain of bounty that enriches me.
Eternal in kingship, for all time
دامَmay he endure للدِّينِfor faith وللدُّنياand for worldly life حِمىًa refuge
خَالِدَeverlasting المُلْكِin sovereignty خُلُودَas enduring as الزَّمَنِtime
May he remain a refuge for faith and worldly life,
his sovereignty enduring as long as time.
