An iris whose delicate garments have been torn,
A lily with torn petals
or a palm whose fingers have been spread open?
Or an outstretched palm with open fingers

As though she were playing with the east wind—
As if flirting with the breeze
a slender maiden whom her north winds set swaying.
Swaying delicately in the wind
قَدْalready رُكِّزَتْhave been planted upright وَسْطَهاin her midst نَيَازِكُهاher lances

Her lances would have stood planted in her midst,
Its buds clustered in its midst
had her misfortunes not slain her by plucking.
Had they not been plucked by reaching hands
