He took me, in love, to Tihamah and Najd—
slender-waisted and lithe of figure.

The east wind sways a slender bough in him,
which almost snaps from its graceful swaying.

I called to him while sleep was scarce
for me, and my heart was grief-stricken by his desertion:

O desire of the lovesick, tormented one,
and brief slumber of the sleepless eye,

For you, by God, are the one over whom
the banner of the beautiful is raised.
