The fragrance from the garden of hopes stirred my longing,
and, for some reason, its course grieved me.

It seemed to me that they would keep faith with me,
and a young man's fancies lure him on.

Then behold: their dawn is the most deceitful of things,
and its first light has indeed deceived reason.

O kindred soul, I counsel you, even if
the course you follow in sincerity proves hard:
لاdo not تَبِتْspend the night فيin كَمَدٍgrief منfrom كَبَدhardship

Do not spend the night in grief over hardship;
many a strait has seen its narrow confines grow wide.

And greet the morning confident in God's kindness:
every distress—its relief rests with Him.
