His wounds have taken dominion over his limbs,

so neither his healing nor his release can be hoped for.

Naked before calamities, maiden and seasoned,

his water sources have been drained, and his wing broken.

His evening never assailed him with sorrow

but his morning doubled it upon him.

He cast off his turban in grief at the all-encompassing reach of

an affliction whose lament his clear speech proclaimed.

And his tale is grief for that land whose

hills and broad valleys portray the gardens of Paradise.

Its rivers flow swiftly beneath it,

and its spreading trees sway gently above it.

Indeed, Islam there has been surrendered to the foes,

so its grief is torment from which no escape is granted.

When its Mansur, its victorious one, was veiled by distance,

its Saffah, its slaughterer, assailed it with his sword.
