ألَمْhave you not تَرseen لِلْخُسوفِat the eclipse وكيفand how أوْدىlaid low
ألَمْ تَر لِلْخُسوفِ وكيف أوْدى
بِبَدْرِwith the full moon التّمّfullness لَمّاعgleaming الضّياءthe light
بِبَدْرِ التّمّ لَمّاع الضّياء
Have you not seen the eclipse, and how it struck down
Have you not seen the eclipse, and how it laid low
the full moon, radiant with gleaming light—
the full moon, gleaming with light,
كمِرآةٍlike a mirror جَلاهاburnished it الصّقْلpolishing حتّىuntil
كمِرآةٍ جَلاها الصّقْل حتّى
أنارَتْit shone ثُمّthen رُدَّتْwas returned فيin غِشَاءa covering
أنارَتْ ثُمّ رُدَّتْ في غِشَاء
like a mirror burnished by polishing until
like a mirror burnished until
it shone, then was shrouded once more?
it shone, then was put back in a covering?
