فَلا خُطْبةٌ مِما أُجيدُ ولا الشعْرُ
Verse and prose have disowned me—woe is me!
He abandoned me, yet poetry and prose still delight me
For neither oratory nor poetry is something I do well.
I can compose neither fine speeches nor verse
وأَيْأَسَنيand made me despair مِنْof ذاthis وذاكَand that تَبَلُّديmy dullness

وَما لامرِئ ذنْبٌ إذا وَضَح العُذْرُ
And my dullness has made me despair of this and that.
Both have been denied me by my numbness
And a man bears no blame when his excuse is clear.
No man is at fault when the excuse is clear
